The Rolling Stones are next month issuing Voodoo Lounge Uncut, the full unedited live performance from Nov 1994, previously issued in truncated form in the 1990s.

The show was filmed by David Mallet on 25 November 1994 at Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium, as the band were four months into their Voodoo Lounge world tour. This new version features 10 performances omitted from its previous release and the full show is now presented in its original running order. Additionally, all visual formats feature five tracks from an earlier date on the Voodoo Lounge Tour that weren’t performed in Miami – in an attempt to make this a definitive record of The Rolling Stones mid-1990s tour.

This is being released by Eagle Rock, so there’s the usual wide array of formats including 2CD+blu-ray, 2CD+DVD, 3LP vinyl and standalone blu-ray and DVD.

Voodoo Lounge Uncut will be released on 16 November 2018. For some reason most of the formats are unavailable via Amazon UK right now.

JON ANDERSON TO RELEASE LONG AWAITED SOLO WORK, 1000 HANDS

In the early days of 2018’s January, Jon Anderson was reported to be finishing a solo work that he began nearly 30 years prior. With everything that gets in the way, it’s a wonder that any shelved projects become renewed. But For Jon Anderson, despite his busyness (at age 74! Birthday on Friday!), this long forgotten solo album is now going to be assured of a place in his catalog of music.

STEVE HACKETT ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF NEW SOLO ALBUM:
AT THE EDGE OF LIGHT

Steve Hackett - The Night Siren

Release date: 25th January 2019

* PRESS RELEASE *

Following the tremendous success of 2017's 'The Night Siren' (charted at #22 in Germany, #28 in the UK), legendary former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett announces the release of his new studio album 'At The Edge Of Light' on the 25th January 2019. The album which features ten songs, sees Steve unite a vast amount of styles ranging from guitar driven rock to epic orchestration, from world music to the reflective and atmospheric all brought together in Steve Hackett's unique style.

Steve says: "In these dangerous times, deep shadows feel even sharper than usual and we find ourselves standing at the edge of light... The contrast between dark and light weaves its way throughout the album in many ways, from the sense of good fighting evil through to the interplay of dark and light opposites magically combining in cultures, including the heartbeat of India and primal tribal rhythms. Ultimately, this album embraces the need for all musical forms and cultures to connect and celebrate the wonder of unity in this divided world."

At The Edge Of Light is released in a number of formats including a Mediabook CD plus extra DVD with 5.1 surround sound mix & behind the scenes documentary, double vinyl LP + CD, Jewelcase CD and digital album.

Steve Hackett has established himself as one of Rock music's finest and recognisable guitarists through his time with the legendary Genesis who he joined in 1971 and a solo career following his departure from Genesis in 1977 and is a hugely influential guitarist particularly in the Progressive Rock genre. 'At The Edge Of Light' will be Hackett's 26th studio album in a solo career that began in 1975 with the release of his debut solo album Voyage Of The Acolyte.

'At The Edge Of Light' was mainly recorded in Steve's own studio but also around the world. The album features international artists, including Durga and Loreley of Pink Floyd vocal fame with drummers Nick D'Virgilio and Simon Phillips from USA, Sheema on sitar from India, Icelandic drummer/percussionist Gulli Briem, tar player Malik Mansurov and Swedish bass player Jonas Reingold... This album also features Paul Stillwell on didgeridoo, Rob Townsend on sax, bass clarinet and duduk, Amanda Lehmann on vocals, John Hackett on flute, drummer Gary O'Toole, Roger King and Ben Fenner on keyboards, Dick Driver on double bass, violinist and viola player Christine Townsend... All magically honed and engineered by Roger King.

The album is released shortly before Steve performs as special guest on the Cruise To The Edge in February 2019 and the On The Blue cruise featuring Justin Hayward, also in February.

Hackett recently played a series of Genesis Revisited shows with Orchestra and will perform two UK dates with acoustic sets in early December before touring Europe in April/May 2019 and has just announced a UK tour in November 2019 with a much anticipated 'Selling England By The Pound & Spectral Mornings & Album Highlights' set.

Description
Back in summer 1968, THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN were on top of the world. Famously promoted by performances with Arthur Brown wearing a burning helmet, ‘Fire!’ was a massive worldwide hit, topping the charts in the UK and Canada and eventually reaching the Top 10 in America (No. 2), France, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands and Ireland. The band’s second single on Track Records, co-produced by The Who’s Pete Townshend, it bridged the gap between London’s flourishing, colourful psychedelic underground and the mainstream pop scene.

The resulting album, THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN, was a theatrical, ambitious concept album based around the elements (fire being just one of four, of course). Such was the huge impact of ‘Fire’ that the album sold in huge quantities, peaking at No. 2 in the UK and No. 7 in America. The Beatles were the only other British band to enjoy such unprecedented sales with such ambitious, psychedelic LPs.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark record, Cherry Red are delighted to present this deluxe edition box set of THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN. Alongside the stereo album and numerous bonus tracks, the rare mono mix appears on CD for the first time, as well as three additional, previously unissued BBC sessions and four other radio recordings, plus a handful of pre-Track recordings by Arthur Brown before he formed Crazy World…

Millions of people discovered the delights of ARTHUR BROWN, rock’s supreme showman, and his influence would be felt the following decade when ALICE COOPER acknowledged his debt to Arthur’s genius.

Lavishly packaged within a 12” x 12” box set, and complete with a stereo vinyl replica of the original LP and a poster, THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN is augmented by a 12,000-word sleeve-note from Mojo magazine’s Mark Paytress (including fresh quotes from Arthur and others), alongside a wealth of illustrations and three previously unissued photos from the original front cover session.

69comebackspecial480-480x480.jpg

50th anniversary • All existing audio and video • 5CD + 2 x blu-ray

Sony will celebrate Elvis Presley‘s ’68 Comeback Special will a seven-disc super deluxe edition box set, due to be issued at the end of November.

The TV special was actually called Singer… presents Elvis (the Singer corporation being the sponsor) and was rescued from being a schmaltzy affair (with The King singing Christmas Carols) by producer Bob Finkel and director Steve Binder who combined to produce something that would appeal to a younger demographic and help to update Elvis Presley’s sound.

The really memorable section of the show was the ‘sit down’ element, that had Elvis on stage dressed in black leather, guitar in hand, with guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer D.J. Fontana. This performance included raw takes of some of Presley’s best records, including ‘That’s All Right’ and ‘Heartbreak Hotel.’ Great versions of  ‘Baby, What You Want Me to Do’ and ‘Lawdy, Miss Clawdy’ signaled Presley’s return to rock ‘n’ roll, after years in Hollywood making  forgettable movies and dubious soundtracks.

The ’68 Comeback Special, as it became known, aired on 3 December 1968 and helped rejuvenate Presley’s recording career.

The new box set features five CDs and two blu-rays and collects all of the existing audio and video from the show, including including the original album, both ‘sit-down’ and ‘stand-up’ performances, rehearsals and sessions recorded with the Wrecking Crew in June 1968, including outtakes. The box set includes an 84-page book with the story told through interviews conducted for this year’s HBO documentary ‘The Searcher’.

This 50th anniversary ’68 Comeback Special box set will be issued on 30 November 2018.

Allman Brothers Band: Fillmore East February 1970 CD

Bear’s Sonic Journals: Allman Brothers Band, Fillmore East February 1970 presents restored and mastered recordings of the Allman Brothers Band at the Fillmore East on February 11, 13 & 14, 1970, captured by legendary Grateful Dead soundman, Owsley Stanley, a/k/a Bear, who is known for the purity of his “Sonic Journal” recordings and their uncanny ability to place the listener in the venue.

This is essential listening for Allman Brothers Band fans, showcasing an early incarnation of the band with Duane Allman in full form and featuring the earliest known live concert recording of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” which had just been penned by Dickey Betts shortly before these shows. The tapes were recorded just one year before the band’s landmark At Fillmore East album from the same venue.

Long out-of-print, these recordings was transferred and remastered from the original tapes in Owsley Stanley’s archives, and includes all new album art and liner notes, including a series of rare band photos from the Fillmore East in February 1970, original cover artwork (“Electric Mushroom”), and new notes from the Allman Brothers Band and the Owsley Stanley Foundation. This is the second release in the award-winning “Bear’s Sonic Journals” series and the first joint presentation by the Allman Brothers Band and the Owsley Stanley Foundation.

In 1978, after having sold millions of records and become one of the biggest international artists of the 1970s, Cat Stevens decided to step out of the rock star spotlight and walk away. That year, he was to release his final album under that name.

While Stevens’ legions of fans were saddened by the news, along with the musicians who had played with him on record and stage, the singer himself was exhilarated by the prospect of moving on. “It was like going back to my original nature,” he reflected at the time. “Back to wide-eyed childhood again”. The appropriately-titled Back To Earth was his parting gift: an album that saw the London-born singer saying farewell to his fans, while obliquely explaining his decision to quit in songs such as ‘Last Love Song’ and ‘Just Another Night’.

“What’s going on behind the appearance of stardom or the stage itself can be a completely different world,” he says now, “and that’s what it was a lot of the time. I kept my sanity and I kept my eyes open.”Image-5.jpgIn May 2019, Back To Earth is to be reissued in various formats on Cat-O-Log Records / BMG, including a 6 Disc, 2LP Deluxe Boxset featuring the original album (remastered at Abbey Road), along with demos, unreleased tracks, and material from UNICEF’s 1979 Year Of The Child concert, the singer’s last live performance as Cat Stevens.

Upon its original release, Back To Earth received rave reviews. “Cat has come up with the kind of quality album that originally made him a superstar,” declared the London Evening News“Just one knockout song after another.” Billboard meanwhile applauded the album’s “tender, folksy ballads [and] up-tempo and spirited pop tunes”Hot Press hailed it as “a lush and intricately woven tapestry of fine melodies…really a return to form.”

Cat Stevens had been thinking long and hard for some time about quitting his music career. Aside from general disillusionment with fame, the singer had experienced a spiritual epiphany after being caught in a rip current and nearly drowning when swimming in the Pacific Ocean three years earlier. Crying to the heavens, “If you save me, I’ll work for you,” he was rescued by a gentle wave which carried him back to the shore.

What he calls his “gradual awakening” and decision to become a Muslim in 1977, changing his name to Yusuf Islam, was sparked by his brother gifting the singer a copy of the Quran for his 27th birthday. “I had discovered a new way to view the universe,” he explained back then. “Like a kid who had travelled by spiritual rocket to an exciting new world.”

Back-2-Earth-new-image-1024x546.jpg

Back To Earth was indeed a remarkable return to form, reuniting Stevens with Paul Samwell-Smith, the producer of his landmark, multi-platinum albums Tea For The Tillerman (1970) and Teaser And The Firecat (1971), as well as continuing his creative partnership with long-time guitarist Alun Davies.

Musically, the album was a blend of the acoustic balladeering and spiritually-questing style that had made the singer a worldwide star, along with more distant echoes of his years growing up as Steven Demetre Georgiou in London’s West End. Tracks such as ‘New York Times’ and ‘Randy’ recalled the influence upon him of the UK capital’s theatre land, and – since parts of the album had been recorded in New York City – Broadway.

“There was this other side of me which was the sort of musical composer,” he remembers. “I loved musicals and I was surrounded by them where I lived. So, I had Bernstein in my blood.”

Long overdue for re-evaluation, Back To Earth is a brilliant and fascinating album capturing Yusuf / Cat Stevens at a defining point in his life.

“Now,” as he said at the time of his departure from the music world, “I’ve come down from the stars.”

Frank Zappa: Zappa In New York â 40th Anniversary - CD Boxset

The 5CD set is available in limited quantity’s and will come packaged in an embossed tin box (18cm x 2.5cm) that resembles a New York City manhole cover and contains a 60 page book.

Recorded live in New York City at the end of 1976. Heavy on, well, “freewheeling” lyrical content, with “Titties & Beer” and “The Illinois Enema Bandit” (the latter featuring “sophisticated narration” by Don Pardo) being special favorites with young males of a certain age. Also here is the song that gets most peoples’ vote for the best title ever to grace a Zappa instrumental, “I Promise Not to Come In Your Mouth.”

When Zappa first released this album in ’78, Warner Brothers was especially nervous about a little tune called “Punky’s Whips.” The tune concerned drummer Terry Bozzio’s lurid sexual fantasies about one Punky Meadows, guitarist for the band Angel. Since Angel was then regarded as an important player in the music industry (yeah, right), Warners sat on the album for a long while and then deleted the track altogether. With this CD reissue “Punky’s Whips” is back in all its glory, along with four other songs not on the original vinyl.
