The aim of this project is to provide the best sound for all types of shows held at the Hall, and for everyone attending. The 465 permanently installed individual loudspeakers took 28 weeks (that’s 6 months!) of overnight installation works, making this audio project the largest single-room speaker system in the world. All of these works happened during the Royal Albert Hall’s busiest year ever, without impacting any of the 327 shows that were held over the half-year it took to install that many loudspeakers. The new system will be officially launched for the Olivier Awards on Sunday 7 April. Every seat in the house now enjoys equal quality of sound – no matter whether you’re sitting in the Queen’s box, up in the Gallery, or down in the Arena thanks to circle, gallery and box speakers for the first time. Here are some more interesting facts about the install: 693 labour days – it would have taken one person almost two years in total to install the whole system on his own 15,291m of cable – almost the distance from the Hall to Heathrow Airport 211 microphones – one for each of Eric Clapton’s performances at the Hall (including his three upcoming shows) 4 tonnes of cable in total – representing 1.2% of the weight of the iron metal frame of our roof (338 tonnes) This project was made possible by a multi-disciplinary team using ground-breaking installation methods that respect our Grade I listed building and industry-leading technology. Year after year, the sound of the band continuously evolved and improved, eventually converging to the current progressive style. The band’s self titled album Stratus Luna features modern compositions on instrumental progressive, psychedelic rock, and jazz, brilliantly performed by a new generation of young musicians. This first record has been idealized by the band members for over five years, incorporating classic elements from progressive rock music with respect to instrumentation, compositional and atmospheric elements. Consisting of seven instrumental tracks, the album introduces the listener to an imaginative journey through its soundscapes. The intense sequenced introduction and soothing flute and guitar melodies in Nimue lead perfectly to the sense of rushing adventure brought by O Centro do Labirinto. In Zarabatana, the Brazilian baião and classical Hindustani influences are very prominent through all of the track’s sections, but there’s still very much a sense of cohesion between them. The midway point of the album then begins with a breath of fresh air, presenting the track Pandas Voadores. A fun, jazzy piece with great Wurlitzer and guitar soloing. The piece then transitions through a synth composition, NREM-1, placing the listener in a great spot for the dreamy and Moog-heavy Onírica. The album finishes off with Efêmera, a peaceful 70s inspired composition that thunderously culminates in a climactic guitar solo. When recording our latest album, WALK THE EARTH, in Abbey Road Studios, the inspiration finally kicked in to finish it. Originally an idea and labour of love of Mic Michaeli’s, the video was meant to touch on emotions and observations related to the Life and Death of your near and dear ones, the circle of life if you will, but it turned out to be much more than that as it follows the dramatic journey of the character taken from the artwork on our album cover. Working with Craig Hooper and his animation team was a real pleasure, and after seeing their work on Deep Purple’s ‘The Surprising’, we knew we were dealing with true visionaries. We’re very proud of the result, especially since it’s our first ever animated video.” As director Craig Hooper continues, “A video like this is a very difficult thing to get right. The song is layered with emotion and meaning and to capture that in images is tricky to say the least. The band decided the only way to do the song justice was through animation, where images are limited only by your imagination and together we roughed out a treatment. I then took that to Pete Rogers and Helen Pooler at Bait Studio in Cardiff, Wales, who are amongst the best in the world at this kind of thing and we’d already worked with them before for a video for Deep Purple. Chris Squire tocaba siempre con uñeta. James Jamerson usaba sólo el dedo índice de su mano derecha todo el rato. Hay otros con mucha destreza y que llegan a hacer "shredding". Bremen is in Northwest Germany and the gig was filmed at the city’s Weserstadion on 2 September 1998. By this point the ‘Stones were three months into the European leg of this enormous year-long tour which had seen them fill stadia and arenas in North America, Asia and South America. This was the first tour where fans could vote on the band’s website for a track they wanted to hear at the show, which is why ‘Memory Motel’ from Black and Blue is in the setlist. In terms of audio and picture quality, it sounds promising, since Eagle Vision state that the film has been “meticulously restored from the original masters” while the audio has been remixed and remastered from the live multitrack recordings. Remember, even though this is offered on blu-ray, this isn’t full HD but ‘upscaled standard definition’. In terms of sound, we get uncompressed stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound. A full range of formats is on offer, including 2CD+blu-ray and 2CD+DVD combo packs, 3LP vinyl and standalone blu-ray and DVD. The longtime streaming holdouts held a press event on Saturday in London, where their manager David Singleton said that the band’s 13 studio albums will soon be available to stream starting in May, as Rolling Stone points out. The move is part of the band’s 50th anniversary celebration, which includes vinyl reissues, a new documentary, and an 50-date international tour starting in June. “The reason we’ve been slow on Spotify is that, unlike apparently the whole of the rest of the industry that’s been telling us that physical is dead, we’ve had rising physical sales for probably the last 10 years,” Singleton said. “But that argument was valid for awhile, and it isn’t anymore.” The streaming rollout starts in May, with the band’s studio albums arriving on Spotify June 10—the same day that the band perform the first date of their world tour. “In the end, our prime function is to serve the music and make the music available,” Singleton later said about the rollout. “Spotify has now definitely become one of the places that people, particularly younger people, find music.” The 13-album rollout includes their 1969 album In the Court of the Crimson Kingall the way to 2003’s The Power to Believe. As part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the band is currently releasing rare archival recordings on their website, where fans can stream and download the tracks.
