Qué les parece la iniciativa?? so... let's get started! The first thing to do in this thread should be to tell the way you learnt english, for me it was in high school, like most people i started translating songs by my favourite bands, until then i thought i knew fairly enough english, but i was wrong, by 2001 i started to visit a chatroom from england, it was blur's chat, to be honest i couldnt understand anything that these ppl were talking, plus the usage of slang was wide... i really felt dissapointed! but i didnt give up! i kept coming night after night to the chat with a dictionary by my side, and suddenly after 3 months i realized i was understanding mostly all of the conversations, and i was able to explain myself quite well! later in uni i took a diploma, it was 3 semesters of very intensive english with an awesome teacher! that lend me to gain a lot of new vocabulary... So thats how i learnt the little english i know, what's your story? tell us Please lets feel free to correct each others so we can learn more =) Citar Enlace al comentario Compartir en otros sitios

After that I started working on a international company and to speak english is a must. So I tried studying after work, but the most important progress was try to speak with natives. Anyway....now I liked to learn more, because I feel my "level" is not what I need. Cheers!!! PD: tambien se hablar en shileno, pero eso es pa despues ja ja ja ja ja ja Citar Enlace al comentario Compartir en otros sitios

RoConde 91 Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 Share Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 Excellent thread! :D I remember I've learned English at school, and I take a course, on saturday evenings.... I was good on English, but I didn't have the chance for practicing, except for reading english documents, papers and websites. But I've learned english again every time I've studied something. The last time I can't take the English test, but I choosed to learn with my classmates. I usually help them in that matter and I'm don't afraid for reading english books. Voh Poh 134 Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 Share Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 Good job Calico Cat! Now that we're communicating in English your name shall be anglicized (Or anglicised if you're British). A chatroom would certainly be a crash course in slang, especially one about a pop band with a younger (At least in spirit) audience like the one you joined, and a British one to boot. Think of an English speaking person trying to understand a Chilean chatroom, or this forum for that matter! However you seem to have soldiered your way through and picked up the language quite well (Hey, a 925 TOEIC! I got 980 hehe, shame on me. Not that it's helped me get a job or anything but it's always good to be reminded you can do something right). As for English slang, it's a humbling experience for any non-UK person who might think he has a firm grasp on the language. Once you've mastered English slang you should try joining a Scottish chatroom I've never been in one but last week I saw a Scottish film that made Trainspotting sound like RP. Fortunately there was as much physical as verbal violence so the words weren't too important, they just set the tone. It's called NEDS and I recommend you give it a try without subtitles, it could of been spoken in Sanskrit an I would've understood more. Well, that's it for me now. Congratulations on the initiative CC. Citar Enlace al comentario Compartir en otros sitios

chatte calico 10 Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 Autor Share Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 dear lord! voh poh, that sounds like a nightmare, i don't think im ready for that scottish thing, i'm still trying to fully understand spoken english, i write and read much better than i listen, but i'm trying to watch my series without the subtitles now, before just out of laziness i would use the subtitles to make sure i was getting each detail... But just when you're forced to understand is that you get the real improvement by the way, your writting skills are impresive pd: what's RP? Voh Poh 134 Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 Share Publicado Marzo 17, 2011 RP = Received Pronounciation From Wikipedia: "Received Pronunciation (RP), also called the Queen's (or King's) English,[1] Oxford English,[2] or BBC English, is the accent of Standard English in England, and to a lesser extent in the other countries of the British Isles,[citation needed] with a relationship to regional accents similar to the relationship in other European languages between their standard varieties and their regional forms.[3] Although there is nothing intrinsic about RP that marks it as superior to any other variety, sociolinguistic factors have given Received Pronunciation particular prestige, especially in the early to mid 20th century.[4] However, since the 1960s, a greater permissiveness towards allowing regional English varieties has taken hold in education[5] and the media in the United Kingdom; in some contexts Received Pronunciation is now perceived negatively.[citation needed]" Citar Enlace al comentario Compartir en otros sitios
